Ok Brief info about me for anyone who doesnt know me.
My name is Dave Singh and I live in upstate new york in the united states. Was born here, im indian , the kind from india. As far as my internet life in concerned I was caught up with one game called street legal, and from then on it was all history. Story made short i learned to mod the game a bit, everyone had little modding teams or w/e it was quite senseless but we had one too, i joined up with some well known team called GER and then we modded some things in the game, after sometime we formed a new team with all expert members from ger into a team called GOM, it was a joke at first as GOM stands for Gods Of Mods lol. The thing is at the time when gom was formed, we were more than half of the pro modders in the community, so all attention was on gom. After realizing we were here to stay I had thoughts of making a website for our downloads only and to stop putting them on XI (a website that used to have an SLRR community). So we did and I didnt know the first thing about websites or web hosting or servers and php and sql and php myadmin were my biggest nightmeres. I caught up with some friends, Geo and Deadx. Geo helped me with installing the website and configuring some plugins. He helped me for sometime. We used a free webhost lol. Within one month gom became very popular the traffic was making our free bandwidth max out. Soon after gom site was suspended for exceeding bandwidth, that was first check of reality. So then after some donation from a good friend dragon.art, we got some paid hosting from a place called bihira. Well little would i understand that was bad mistake. The service was fast and stable for a few months but only for that long, after it was declining in speed and performance and downtime was every 10 minutes. We often had full weeks of downtime and broken promises from our server admins about upgrading hardware and so much things. While all this going on, GOM was waging a war with GER Tech and winning. They have been at ware with us at that time since our foundation of a team in 2004. Keeping up with this war and fighting server challenges was not easy. GOM would go down and the traffic would flock over to GER tech. We would worry about hack attempts and dirty users. It was very sick and all the while we were only killing each others and the SL community. GOM got a bad reputation from IV the developer of SL when we broke off from Christy who was sought after with much respect from IV. they stopped coming to our forums and stopped answering emails. Much propaganda was fed through email to them about us. Well there is alot of inbetween info but basically we were fighting back and forth trying to push out mods and big projects and each mod we pushed out made us that much better in the community. At the time we were neck and neck and either one of us was cutting any slack. Christy started to make some java mods wich we could do with lack of sources and knowledge. This made a bit more attention but not releasing them to the public saved us from death as many people became angry of that. To this day i still believe if christy had released the mods she had shown to public GOM would of lost the war and probally not be around anymore. So after that punkguy (member of gom modding team) found one guy on Russian forums, his name is Raxat. He came to gom a few times on the shoutbox saying he was busy with something but he would come as soon as it was over. I wasnt sure what he was talking about and I didnt understand why he was important to me and why he thought i would care if he was busy. Turns out he had alot of expert knowledge in programming java and he was very innovative and didnt take failure as reason to quit. This was the perfect combination for GOM and SLRR survival. After hearing his ideas i passed the Java sources to him and from then it was truely magic. He made so much progress so fast it was incredible. Right then we had another 2 week downtime on gom and i was so irratated I moved out of that web host and into another, just to find out they had a bunch of restrictions wich limited GOM greatly. I then decided to stop dickering and rented out a server for web hosting. I planned to sell the hosting wich would pay for the server rental and provide GOM with stable service. This plan eventually turned into a website called www.GOM-Networks.com wich i registered and attend to as a real business. We now have 4 servers out in our data center in california rented each month and full tech and sales support provided by the Data center. Good deal, the servers are fast, always up, and never slow down. There is always issues that we go through and the current issue we have is lack of time and the lack of finance and donations. The server gom is on is paid by the clients using hosting on the server but with the traffic gom gets it was nesscary to be dedicated hosting, but then there wouldnt be any way to cover the fees. We are working on that and hoping by the summer to get gom on its own GOM Networks server. In between all of that i realized GOM's potential and thought it was nessecary to expand into other games. So we did with LFS and GTA sa , UT2004 and other games and even AA as you see now. The expansion has gone quit well and we have a number of GOM sites these days.
Some words from RAXAT:
"I knew that javas will give me total control but i didn't thought about how far it can go and what unexpected consequeces would result. Your support seriously increased the speed of my developent. It's so sad that Invictus-Games Ltd. still thinks bad things about GOM, but i hope i will change the situation when SL3 will come, cuz power of Java programming is supreme on modscene and i can handle it so good to prove that we will be No.1 on SL3 modscene."
Well thats my short history of Me and GOM.
Now lets start modding..
